NYE in Safari Style

The sounds of the bush are among my favourite. This past New Year’s, we traded in the loud fireworks and popping champagne bottles for sweet sounds of cicadas and clinking ice over Amarula.

Where did we stay?

We stayed in a luxury tent in Thabazimbi, Limpopo called Acacia Tented Camps. Only 4 months old, this brand spanking new, luxury accommodation offers the best glamping experience you could ask for. Gorgeous, spacious bathrooms, ample hot water, electricity, tea & coffee station, wifi & TV with Netflix (but I would seriously encourage you not to connect when trying to disconnect from everything else).

What did we eat?

Included in our packaged we were spoilt with our own private chef who cooked and prepared three abundant and delicious meals for us every day we were there. Shout out to Chef Peet. We had pasta, lamb shanks, fresh vegetables and salads, burgers with cheese mushroom sauce, chocolate fondant, berry cheesecake, fruits, yogurt, muffins, full farmhouse breakfast. Insanely scrumptious and we never went hungry.

What did we see?

We had our own private game vehicle. You can choose when you want to go for drives and how many. We chose to go on an early morning sunrise drives and then a sunset drive in the evening. The farm is sadly a hunting farm, which I am rabidly opposed to. But this side of the business (the luxury accommodation side) is completely separated from any of that. We were really lucky to see some rare, exotic game including King & Golden Wildebeest, White Impala, Black Impala, Copper Sable, White Gemsbok and Roan (which I’ve never seen before). We also saw Blue Wildebeest, Zebra, Kudu, Giraffe, so many tortoises and two very cute chameleons. If you are looking to see the Big Five, Marakele Game Reserve is about a 2 hours drive away.

What did we do?

During the day it was too hot to go a game drive so we spent our afternoons playing card games, eating, napping hard and swimming in our own private ‘donkey’ pool (aka wood-fired heater) repeatedly. We didn't need to use the heater but it would be so lekkerrrrrrrr to use if you stayed here in Winter.
